A new Wensleydale in town!

As part of our ever-growing selection and love for local produce in our Cheese & Gift Shop, we now stock delicious Old Roan cheese from ‘The Home Farmer’! The Home Farmer’s Old Roan is a Wensleydale cheese, made in small batches by hand on their farm. Using a traditional recipe, and their unpasteurised milk , they describe their cheese as creamier and less crumbly than the typical Wensleydale that you may be more familiar with!

The Home Farmer and their team have been a friend of Wensleydale Creamery for a while now  – a dedicated supplier of milk to our creamery and a weekly visitor to our Visitor Centre with their milk-vending machine. Everything happens right there on their farm, from growing the lush Wensleydale grass their ladies love to eat, to milking the cows, ensuring sure they’re in tip top health and making the cheese! We’ve been making regular visits down the Dale to see how they’ve been getting on with their cheese-making and have been sending our cheese experts and graders to help them along their way.

We’re so proud to be able to support ‘grass-roots’ (excuse the pun) producers and by stocking Old Roan in our Cheese Shop, we’re flying the flag even more for local food producers in Yorkshire & Wensleydale – something we’re really passionate about! The team have made an exceptional cheese! So come on down to our Cheese Shop and sample their product and tell us what you think!
