Coffee & Cheese – the delicious pairing you didn’t know you needed!

As cheese accompaniments go, coffee isn’t the one you might reach for first, but this quirky pairing (which is popular in Scandinavia) is a match made in culinary heaven!

Both popular after-dinner offerings, pairing them together correctly compliments the flavours in each, and with a little know-how on which coffee notes pair perfectly with our handcrafted range, you’ll be reaching for the cheese over the chocolates going forward.

To explore this delicious pairing, we’ve recently partnered with 200 Degrees, a team of passionate, artisan coffee roasters who believe every stage, from bean to cup, needs special care and attention to create the perfect coffee.

This quirky pairing (which is popular in Scandinavia) is a match made in culinary heaven!

Founded in 2012, 200 Degrees now run 18 coffee shops and six barista schools, as well as supplying businesses across the UK with their delicious range.  What their team don’t know about coffee, isn’t worth knowing!

All of the green coffee beans used in their range are ethically sourced, with their signature Brazilian Love Affair espresso blend (which is also now our house blend here at the Creamery) coming from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms.

As well as producing a great tasting cup, 200 Degrees’ principles of ethical sourcing and care for the farmers who grow their beans, coupled with their traditional hand roasting methods, and just a little bit of help from modern technology, ensures that the coffee they deliver is outstanding and true to their founding principles – things that we hold in high regard in our own production methods here at Wensleydale Creamery.

To celebrate this new pairing, the team from 200 Degrees will be joining us here at the Creamery on Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th August to sample four of their delicious range along with the pairing of Brazilian Love Affair Coffee with our Naturally Oak Smoked Wensleydale, which will be available in Calvert’s from that date.

What’s more, you can enjoy 20% off all bags of coffee bought in our Visitor Centre on those days!

Don’t believe us?  Give it a try….

Brazilian Love Affair

Their signature expresso blend (which is also now our house blend here at the Creamery) contains beans sourced from Uganda, Brazil, Peru and has a delicious crema with a strong, bold finish.

It pairs perfectly with our Naturally Oak Smoked Cheddar cheese, with the natural smokiness and creamy mouthfeel of the cheese complimenting perfectly the rich, round and bold flavours of the coffee.

Kiandu AB

This single origin Kenyon coffee has light roast bold tasting notes of blueberry, cola and pink grapefruit.  It’s one that will definitely put a pep in your step and get your tongue tingling!

It’s fruity and zesty notes are a match made in heaven for our fruity cheeses, with Wensleydale & Cranberries and Wensleydale & Pineapple, bringing a delicious acidity and tartness that really complement each other.  Looking for less of a zing?  Try classic Yorkshire Wensleydale instead, to with its creaminess balancing the sweet fruit flavours beautifully.

A coffee that makes a difference!

Money raised from the sale of this delicious coffee goes towards work to empower young people to break the cycle of crime & gang-criminality in the region where the beans are sourced in Guatemala.

This premium single origin coffee is produced exclusively by female farmers and is the perfect accompaniment to a number of our cheeses including Wensleydale & Cranberries, which complements the sweetness of the cheese as well as enhancing the deep flavours in the coffee.  Try alongside our Naturally Oak Smoked Wensleydale with the smokiness of the cheese and creamy mouthfeel complimenting the rich round flavours from the coffee, or with Kit Calvert Old Style Wensleydale, with its buttery, and especially creamy texture pairing perfectly to balance and compliment the coffee’s flavour notes.
