Dinner with the Cream of the Crop

We are exceptionally proud to have our own dedicated Milk Producer Group, and celebrated the 21st anniversary of its formation in December 2016.

We’re currently sourcing milk from over 40 local farms, which we use to handcraft our award-winning cheese, yogurt and butter. In 2017 we employed a Farm Liaison Officer, Becky Vallis, to enable us to keep building on our relationship with the farmers; providing support and ensuring that there is constant communication between them and The Creamery.

The hard work and dedication of our farmers is integral to the quality of the milk, which is of course crucial to our cheese-making process. To say thank you for all that they do, we brought our farmers together once again on Friday 8th December.

Hosted in Calvert’s Restaurant at our Visitor Centre in Hawes, the farmers sat down to a festive home-made feast of four courses; a sharing platter starter, roast turkey dinner, Christmas pudding with brandy cream, and rounded off with a cheeseboard of five of our award-winning cheeses, served with home-made oat cakes and chutney.

Managing Director, David Hartley, gave the farmers an overview of the past year; awards that our cheeses have won, exposure and PR for the brand, development at The Creamery, insight into some of the exciting plans we have for the future, and welcomed new producers that had joined us in 2017. Newly-appointed Producer Group Committee Chairman, Steve Scrivin, spoke a few words and really highlighted his personal pride in supplying milk to The Wensleydale Creamery.

It was a wonderful night; brilliant to bring everyone together and enjoy the delicious food prepared by our Head Chef, Gwen, and her team, and to be able to thank our farmers for being such an asset to our Creamery.
