ENJOY A TASTE OF YORKSHIRE THIS HALF TERM AT THE WENSLEYDALE CREAMERY

NEW CHEESE-MAKING VIEWING GALLERY

The Wensleydale Creamery, based at Hawes in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, is welcoming families to come and enjoy the Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese Experience at its Visitor Centre this February half term.

The interactive experience takes visitors on a journey through the art of cheese-making, including the opportunity to watch Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese being handcrafted from the Cheese-making Viewing Gallery. There is fun for the whole family with hands-on games and activities such as driving the children’s milk tanker and learning all about how a cow makes milk!

New for this February, the Viewing Gallery has been developed to incorporate a wealth of exciting information and touch screens showing behind the scenes footage of the cheese-making process. Visitors can discover how cranberries get into Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese, and how is blue cheese made.

During the February school break, vhildren can also enjoy a programme of live cheese-making demonstrations at the Visitor Centre.

Visitors will find over 20 different varieties of handcrafted, award-winning cheese to try in the much-loved cheese and gift shop, as well as a host of locally sourced artisan food including oils, preserves and accompaniments for cheese.

All the food at The Wensleydale Creamery Visitor Centre is home-made and locally sourced, with daily seasonal specials and dishes inspired by the use of The Creamery’s award-winning cheeses.

Calvert’s Restaurant offers signature dishes such as the “Ultimate Yorkshire Wensleydale Experience”; a three-course extravaganza of Black Sheep Ale-battered Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese, Wensleydale Chicken, and the famous Yorkshire Wensleydale & Ginger Cheesecake. Don’t miss the locally sourced Sunday carvery – booking is highly advisable!

The 1897 Coffee Shop offers home-made light bites such as The Creamery’s famous Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese on toast, as well as cakes and pastries, and a fantastic range of teas and coffees, served and made with Wensleydale milk of course!

David Hartley, Managing Director of The Wensleydale Creamery, explains: “The Wensleydale Creamery promises a true taste of Yorkshire, and is the perfect day out during half term. Our Visitor Centre offers a wonderful opportunity to learn about how our delicious Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese is made. From watching the cheese being handcrafted, to savouring the finished product in our Cheese Shop and in the mouth-watering dishes served in the Restaurant and Coffee Shop.”
