Our Reopening Plans

Hello & welcome,

Our award-winning Visitor Centre has now fully reopened. Please understand that this may not be the usual Wensleydale Creamery experience that you are used to.  However, please be assured that we are working extremely hard to ensure that when you do visit us, you can do so in a way that is safe for you and our staff.

We’re now open Monday – Sunday 10am – 4pm*

  • Cheese and Gift Shop
  • Calvert’s Restaurant *11.30am – 3pm
  • 1897 Coffee Shop
  • Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese Experience (including Cheesemaking Viewing Gallery)

Here are some of the measures we are taking to ensure that you can enjoy your time with us in a safe way:

  • The entire Visitor Centre has been deep cleaned and increased cleaning will continue to take place
  • Hand sanitiser is available at the entrance and exits, and throughout the site
  • We can only accept contactless and card payments
  • We are currently unable to offer takeaway food and drink. We’re working on this and will update you with more information as soon as possible.

Gift Shop

  • One-way system around the shop, which is indicated by roping and floor markings
  • Please respect 2m distancing indicated by the floor markings and signage
  • We have reduced the number of our colleagues working in the shop, and will be limiting the number of customers in the shop at any one time
  • Please be prepared to queue outside at 2m distancing to enable us to manage safe numbers inside the shop
  • We have introduced screens at the till points and created a system to checkout with reduced contact
  • We are kindly asking customers not to handle produce and merchandise unless making a purchase
  • Cheese & chilled produce will be available from the fridge at the entrance to the shop
  • Visitors to our Gift Shop are required to wear a face-covering

Cheese Shop

  • The Cheese Shop will be fully stocked with our range of artisan cheese & deli food accompaniments
  • Please follow the one-way system through the Gift Shop to the Cheese Shop, using the normal entrance and exit doors
  • Maximum 6 customers allowed in the Cheese Shop at one time
  • We are unable to offer samples
  • There will be sanitising points upon entry and at various points throughout the shop
  • We are kindly asking customers to refrain from handling produce unless making a purchase
  • Visitors to our Cheese Shop are required to wear a face-covering.

Calvert’s Restaurant

  • New amazing bistro-style menu with small and large plates, and dessert
  • Entrance and exit via the garden door only (with outdoor 2m queuing if required)
  • We have reduced the number of tables to increase distance spacing
  • Booking is recommended and we welcome this via phone 01969 667664, ext 3 or email reservations@wensleydale.co.uk or enquire in the Gift Shop
  • Maximum 6 guests per party
  • Dedicated waitress for tables, with full service from order to payment at the table
  • Face coverings are required for diners who wish to use our toilet facilities like access to our restrooms is via the Gift Shop.

 Coffee Shop

  • Hot drinks, cakes, pastries, light bites and daily specials available
  • Entrance & exit through the garden door only (with outdoor 2m queueing if required.
  • We have reduced the number of indoor tables to increase distance spacing, however, we do have plenty of outdoor seating
  • Maximum 6 guests for table reservation
  • Dedicated waitress for tables, with full service from order to payment at the table
  • Please note that from Friday 24th July, face coverings are required for diners who wish to use our toilet facilities as access to our restrooms is via the Gift Shop.

Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese Experience

  • Face coverings are required from 8th August
  • There will be a protective screen at the entrance reception desk
  • We are restricting numbers entering the Experience, and creating hourly entrance slots from 10:30am
  • Please book your entry slot upon arrival at the Experience reception desk (we are not able to take bookings in advance/ prior to arrival)
  • Unfortunately, demonstrations will not be available, and children’s interactive games will be closed
  • Self-guided tour and we ask guests to respect social distancing throughout the Experience
  • Please use the additional sanitisation points at touch screens
  • To reflect the above measures, we have reduced admission to £1.95 (adult) and under 12’s free
