We were delighted to take a stand and bring The Wensleydale Creamery to this year’s Food & Drink Expo, to meet with contacts and customers old and new. The show was vibrant and exciting with a wealth of different food and drink producers, wholesalers and independent businesses; all of whom were passionate about growing their businesses and working together. On The Wensleydale Creamery stand we displayed our full range of handcrafted cheeses including Yorkshire Wensleydale (which has European protected food name status), Wensleydale Blue and Yorkshire Wensleydale & Cranberries, as... Michelle’s Marathon

Our Deputy Visitor Centre Manager Michelle Barnes, is undertaking a marathon challenge in aid of the Fire Fighters Charity on Sunday 24th April, when she takes part in the 35th Virgin London Marathon. Michelle is one of three members of our staff who are in the retained fire service, based at Hawes Fire Station in Wensleydale. This is quite typical of deeply rural areas that may be too far from the bigger towns with full time fire crews, to reach them quickly enough in an emergency situation. The Wensleydale Creamery... British Pie Week

Here in the UK, we’re famous for our love of pies – particularly in the North! The origin of the pie can be traced back as far as the ancient Greeks, who created a makeshift pastry to place over meat for cooking, to help keep the juices in. The pastry was never intended to be eaten. The Romans made miniature pies containing fruits or small birds, which would form part of a lavish banquet. The pie became a staple for farmers and tradesmen, who would spend long hours in the... Read More

Buy British this Christmas

It is estimated that 40% of food here in the UK is imported. This includes items such as New Zealand lamb and Danish bacon, and imports are often a hot topic in the news. It seems that many British consumers are now making a move towards supporting British producers, and we’ve seen many campaigns recently demanding fairer deals, for British produce to be stocked in supermarkets, and more recently for wonky vegetables to be accepted! With the launch of the Great British Food campaign, run by Defra and headed by... Read More
