The Wensleydale Creamery Showcases Range at International Trade Show in Paris

The Wensleydale Creamery, famous for its European protected Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese, will showcase its range of handcrafted cheeses as it heads to SIAL in Paris (16-20 October), the world’s largest food innovation exhibition bringing together over 7,000 companies from 100 countries around the world.

The exhibition showcases products from all over the world and looks at the latest emerging culinary trends. The Creamery will be showcasing its range of sliced blended cheeses at the event, which recently launched in France, and unveil their new Mature Cheddar with Black Sheep Riggwelter Ale for the first time in Paris, building on the success of its first export order for this cheese to the US this month.

The Wensleydale Creamery currently exports to 20 countries across four continents with exports making up 14% of sales, with the company on course to continue its export success this year. The Creamery recently struck a deal with French retailers, Carrefour and Auchan, to launch its range of sliced blended cheeses, with sales performing well throughout France.

David Hartley, Managing Director at The Wensleydale Creamery, said: “It’s great to be able to showcase our award-winning range of cheeses, including blended slices and the new Black Sheep Riggwelter Ale Cheddar at SIAL in Paris.

“Exports account for a growing percentage of our sales at the Creamery, as we continue to strengthen our reputation globally as quality cheese-makers. The development of different formats and flavours of cheese, such as slices, has made cheese more relevant and accessible to consumers around the world.”

The Wensleydale Creamery achieved European Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status in 2013 for its Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese, which differentiates ‘Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese’ from other Wensleydale cheeses that are produced in other counties around the UK. Cheese-makers outside the designated area can only call their cheese ‘Wensleydale’ not ‘Yorkshire Wensleydale’.

The award-winning Wensleydale Creamery, based in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales is renowned for its traditional cheese-making skills, as well as being recognised for its expertise in the blending of cheese, and innovation with the development of new cheese recipes and pack formats which are loved around the globe.
