We have a new Head Chef!

We’re pleased to announce the appointment of Jordan Tyson, who has taken on the role of Head Chef.

As a leading Yorkshire foodie destination, we take pride in our commitment to showcasing the finest Yorkshire produce, delivering mouth-watering menus in our Calvert’s Restaurant & 1897 Coffee Shop, which visitors travel from all over the country to experience.  Jordan will be welcoming visitors with memorable culinary experiences that place its handcrafted range of Yorkshire Wensleydale cheeses at the heart of its dishes and celebrate local Yorkshire produce.

Jordan has had a passion for food since the age of 15, which he nurtured through extensive travel, allowing him to experience and master a variety of cuisines. More recently, Jordan has worked with, and developed a passion for Yorkshire produce in renowned Yorkshire farm shops which boast restaurants and cafes and is keen to develop this further with the Wensleydale Creamery. Alongside this, in Jordan’s previous roles he has worked in teams that have won numerous Trip Advisor and AA awards as well as Les Routiers recognition and publication.

Jordan has already introduced a mouth-watering selection of sharing boards in Calvert’s Restaurant; visitors can sample several of the artisan cheeses in innovative ways, from Oak Smoked Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese and red pepper croquettes, Yorkshire Wensleydale macaroni cheese bites to a pressed mushroom & Wensleydale Blue cheese pot. See menu here!

Jordan Tyson, commented: “It’s a pleasure to be able to work with the best, locally sourced Yorkshire produce on a daily basis, and I am excited to get to champion seasonal foods and local suppliers over coming months.

“Food quality is really important to me, and I am delighted to be able to shine a light on the fantastic Yorkshire produce available at the Creamery and of course the range of delicious Yorkshire Wensleydale cheeses.”

Trish Cannon, Visitor Centre Director, added; “Jordan is a great addition to the team here at the Visitor Centre. We are looking forward to seeing him develop our menu even further, giving visitors some truly memorable food experiences that we are sure will make them want to come back time and time again. His experience is exactly what we need to help us continue to delight visitors with our iconic Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese inspired menus.

“With a busy year ahead of us with UK staycations on the rise we are still on the hunt for people with a passion for quality and local produce to join our team and if this sounds like something suited to you, we’d love to hear from you.”

We have enjoyed many lovely lunches over the years based on your traditional menus. The tasting board menus are just not our idea of a good lunch in traditional Wensleydale style. If you re-introduce a more traditional menu we will happily book again, otherwise it will have to be the cafe or a different venue for lunch. Chris and Sandra Penn
